The Birth of Straight To The Creative
My name is Freedom Bremner and I am the founder and creative director at Straight To The Creative. Over the last 7 years, I have assembled a team of professionals, both creatives, and "creative administratives" alike. (I believe creativity comes in many forms). Straight To The Creative started, like so many great things in life, started as bit of a "happy accident".
I've been and actor and a musician since I was in high school. Throughout my career, I was usually the band member that took on art design, promotion, marketing, and media even before there was social media. The storytelling, getting the message out through whatever media was available, it always fell to me and I loved it.
In the early 2000's as social media was expanding I taught myself how to use editing software, I bought some cameras and started to create live tour videos and social media content for my former band Screaming Headless Torsos, as we toured Europe and Latin America. After a couple of years my confidence and skill set had both increased and in 2015 I developed a video concept for a crowd funding campaign that would utilize puppets. Amazingly we were able to enlist Kevin Clash, to direct the project. Kevin Clash is the master puppeteer who took Elmo to rock star status. That incredible experience was a turning point for me, because it went beyond the traditional music video format, and into scriptwriting, locations, sets, voice dubbing, and of course, puppets! We were also enlisting experts, and collaborating with top tier talent, Hollywood talent, in fact, and that was game changing. This was real producing. I started contracting the same camera operators and editors, and before long we had developed a serious production team.
The happy accident came when I was contacted by a representative of a global life sciences company that had seen my music videos.
They asked me if I would produce a special end of the year "thank you" video on behalf of one of the executives for their international team. I never intended to direct videos or films, for other clients, but growth is good, opportunity was knocking at the door and we answered. That corporate project allowed me utilize my entire skill set, recording, music licensing, arranging music, scripting a story and filming on location, and again, I loved it.
The emotional impact of this particular project and it's effect on the employees, was so strong that the client hired us to create a short film, a musical campaign, and several other short form videos.
The work was fulfilling and inspiring in large part because of the commitment, passion, and focus of the people who worked at the company. My team was introduced to physicians, executives, and administrators, all people who were as passionate about saving lives and creating new therapies, as we are about creating art. They had compelling stories to tell. It was also clear to us that in this corporate space there was a genuine appreciation and a need for inventive, inspired, storytelling and messaging. I decided to add a new division to Houseofreedom, and we called it Straight To The Creative. There's a story behind the name too. We'll save that one for later. We're here to help you tell your story in the most compelling and interesting way for your audience. Our story is unique and so is yours.
