The Birth of Straight To The Creative
My name is Freedom Bremner and I am the founder and creative director at Straight To The Creative. Over the last 7 years, I have assembled a team of professionals, both creatives, and "creative administratives” alike. ( I believe creativity comes in many forms....)
Straight To The Creative started, like so many great things in life, started as what the great PBS painting instructor, Bob Roberts, would call "a happy accident". I've been an actor and a musician since I was in high school. I was the singer in the band that loved to create album art, posters, and marketing media even before there was social media. The storytelling for the band, somehow always fell to me and I loved it.
In the early 2000's as social media was expanding I taught myself how to use editing software, bought some cameras and started to create live tour videos and social media content for my band Screaming Headless Torsos, as we toured Europe and Latin America. After a couple of years my confidence and skill set grew and I started to conceive more advanced ideas that involved scriptwriting, locations, sets, voice dubbing, hiring full film crews, directors, and occasionally puppets!
Enter the "happy accident..." I was contacted by an international corporation that liked my music videos. They asked me if I would produce a special end of the year "thank you" video on behalf of one of the executives. I never intended to direct videos or films, for other peoples projects, but growth is good, opportunity was knocking, and we answered. That project allowed me utilize my trusted team, and my entire skill set: recording, music licensing, music arrangement, scripting a story, sourcing and filming on location. Once again, I found myself loving it.
The emotional impact of that project and the joy it brought the company’s employees, was incredibly fulfilling. More projects were offered to us, a musical campaign, and several short form videos. A year later, it was clear were on a roll and I decided to add a new division to Houseofreedom.
About the name.... We performed at an event were our live bad Hosueofreedom All-Stars opened the evening with the them song from a video we produced that had been seen throughout the copy. A guest complimented our performance and asked our our client ," who produced this video and the show? She said, " oh it was done by Houseofreeedom, they're a music production company, they make great videos and have an awesome live band for events. He responded "oh you got the kind of cool creative that other companies subcontract. You went straight the creative." The rest, as they say is "take that cool name as a sign from the universe and run with it"!😃
